Tripoli Cut & Colour Buffing Action

Also known as Alpha Quartz, Tripoli is a rare, naturally occurring soft siliceous sedimentary rock mainly composed of extremely fine grained crystalline quartz, that is loosely coherent and is easily reduced to a fine powder – distinct from hard silica which has to be rigorously pulverized into micronized powder form.Tripoli particles are a friable agglomerate of primary crystals (<10 microns) which bound to each other. Although hard, the primary crystals lack distinct edges & corners. For over a century now, OEM’s across the globe have formulated superior buffing compounds exploiting this unique microcrystalline property of Tripoli. In metal polishing applications, Tripoli particles crumble into smaller particles as they are rubbed in. Larger Tripoli particles will cut a surface when first applied. As the larger particles break down into smaller sizes, they begin to colour the finished item. The result is a uniform polish with a practically mirror finish in a single operation.
