Green Silicon Carbide (SiC) is produced basically in the same process as black silicon carbide in a resistance type electric furnace with petroleum coke, quartz sand and other materials. It is an extremely hard (Knoop 2600 or Mohs 9.4) manufactured material with high thermal conductivity (100 W/m-K). In addition, it also has high strength at elevated temperatures (at 1000°C, Green SiC is 7.5 times stronger than Al₂O₃). It is the higher purity silicon carbide manufactured with typically>98.5%of SiC. The crystal type is alpha phase silicon carbide in the form of hexagonally shaped platelets.

Because green SiC has greater purity, which makes it has higher hardness but more friable and angular. For this reason, green silicon carbide is used for grinding hard metals such as chilled cast iron rolls, titanium, and metal and ceramic cutting materials.

Application:
1. Green silicon carbide is great material when processing hard metal alloys and non-metallic materials which are hard and fragility like jewels, optical glass or ceramics.
2. The sharpness characteristic of green silicon carbide also can be used to cut or grind nonferrous materials such as copper, brass, aluminum, or magnesium.
3. Green Silicon carbide is high grade material in refractory industry.
4 Ultra-fine green silicon carbide powders can be used as raw material for a special ceramic.
5. Green SiC powder is also used as auxiliary material for wire sawing semiconductor.
